Freediving is the next step from snorkelling or scuba diving. You can learn breathhold techniques to swim for longer underwater, without being restricted by a heavy oxygen tank. You’ll feel more at one with the ocean and sealife! Here’s how to have a freediving adventure …
Get started with freediving
To get a feel for whether you might like to learn to freedive, try shallow diving the next time you’re snorkelling. Take a breath through the snorkel and dive under the water a few metres to swim closer to the sea bed whilst holding your breath. But don’t try to go too deep before coming up for air!
A little more freediving adventure
It’s important to do a Freediving course like PADI Basic Freediver or PADI Freediver before you try to dive too deep. Freediving is a skill that you need to learn properly to be safe.
To take the course you need to be older than 15 years, have adequate swimming skills and be in good physical health. However, you don’t need to have any prior experience with snorkelling or freediving.
You’ll learn all the knowledge you need, complete a confined water session to learn breathhold techniques, and practice freediving to 10 metres.
Maximum freediving adventure
First you need to complete a beginner freediving course and learn how to be safe in the water. After that you can choose to do the PADI Advanced Freediver course and the PADI Master Freediver course. These courses will further improve your skills and build your confidence in open water.
