Who’s up for a skiing adventure? What could be cooler than swooshing down a snowy mountain on two blades? And have you heard of ‘apres ski’?
Here’s some ideas from getting started to maximum adventure!
Get started…
If you’re not quite ready for cold climates, why not test your balance on a ski simulator? Virtual reality is a ‘thing’ now!
If you’re keen to give it a go, you can often find ski simulators at outdoor sports events and exhibitions, especially those with a winter sports focus.
But if you’d rather stay at home you can always check out a skiing video game – try Steep for Xbox One and PS4.
A little more skiing adventure…
If you’re ready to give skiing a real try, but you don’t want to travel too far, an indoor slope is a great place to start.
Head to your nearest dry ski slope or snow dome and take a lesson or two. You can find these everywhere (seriously, even in Dubai!!). Most places offer everything from trial sessions to full blown courses!
I tried out the snowdome in Milton Keynes, UK – here’s my write-up.
Snowdomes offer gear (skis, poles, boots, jackets and trousers) for hire. All you need is gloves and socks which you can normally buy there. Or you can pick up cheaper gloves on Amazon and cheaper socks on Amazon.
Maximum skiing adventure!
For maximum adventure there’s nothing better than a skiing holiday. The best place to learn to ski is a real snowy mountain and there are runs for all levels.
Take a lesson a day and by the end of the week you’ll be flying down the slopes!
Skiing can be expensive, but there are some great skiing holiday deals on Expedia at the moment.
And once you’re a pro, you can book to go heli-skiing. Heli-skiing is off piste and only accessible via helicopter, so you need to be really good to be confident of your safety. Something to aim for!
