I went to New York for a few days with my Mum. I had been before with a friend and absolutely loved it, so I really wanted to show my Mum the sights!
One evening we decided to go for dinner near Times Square so that we could see the lights at night time.
We were staying near the Empire State Building so, whilst we were central, it was a fair walk back to our hotel. We didn’t feel like catching a cab and figured it would be pretty safe to walk along Fifth Avenue on a Saturday night, expecting there to be a lot of people around.
Well, it turned out Fifth Avenue was completely quiet that Saturday night. No people, no cars, and frankly a bit spooky. We were brave though and continued to walk to the hotel, stopping to cross the street even though there weren’t many vehicles around.
Suddenly the dark shape of a man appeared, moving towards us at a pace. He came closer. Bat-like ears sillhoutted against the streetlights, cape flowing behind him. It couldn’t be?!
Batman.
We froze. There we were on a deserted street in a huge city, alone with Batman. We didn’t know what to do. What was going to happen?
He laughed. “Haha, you can tell you’re tourists! You’re scared! I’m in a batman costume, what do you think I’m gonna do?”
And with that, he ran. Right down the middle of the wide street of Fifth Avenue, stopping the odd yellow taxi in its tracks as he made his way to save Gotham City.
