Scuba diving is the next step from snorkelling if you want to experience the underwater world in a bit more depth (literally!). Your oxygen tank will allow you to breathe normally underwater while you swim close to fish, turtles, and other sea life. Here’s some ideas for a scuba diving adventure …
Get started with scuba diving
It can be a little bit tricky to get used to breathing underwater – it’s so unnatural. So the best way to try scuba diving for the first time is to try it in a swimming pool.
Most local diving clubs will offer a ‘try dive’ at a local pool. These are great because they allow you to give the apparatus a try without any worry about being in open water. You can keep your feet on the ground if you like and you’ll always know that you aren’t very deep.
A little more scuba diving adventure
For a little more scuba diving adventure you’ll want to get yourself in the ocean. You can book a beginner scuba diving trip in many locations around the world. On a beginner trip you’ll try scuba diving to a shallow depth and for a short amount of time.
Beginner scuba diving trips are available at the Great Barrier Reef, where I saw my first turtle! Or you could try Split, Croatia or perhaps Honolulu, Hawaii.
Maximum scuba diving adventure
If you want to get serious about scuba diving adventure you’ll need to do your PADI. PADI is a diving certification that allows you to become a Certified Diver. This means you can go on more advanced dives.
There are some truly amazing things to see if you want to get into diving. You could dive shipwrecks (check out Tulamben, Indonesia or Bermuda) or other underwater monuments.
