A while back, I was lucky enough to win a pair of KEEN Terradora waterproof hiking boots. They’ve since traveled with me on many long hikes in Peru, Jordan and Norway to name just a few! So I thought it was time to give them a review.
Meet the KEEN Terradora Waterproof Hiking Boots – my favourite outdoor footwear.
I Stumbled Upon Them By Accident
A few weeks ago, I entered a competition with Cooler Magazine to win the boots and a Trailfit session in Epping Forest led by Sophie Everard and I was lucky enough to win. I never win anything so I was pretty stoked!
I got up early (for a Saturday) and drove to Epping Forest to meet some cool girls who, like me, love the active lifestyle. On arrival I was given breakfast (pancakes – yum!) and my shiny new blue KEEN Terradora Waterproof Boots.
KEEN Terradora Waterproof Hiking Boots Review
The KEEN Terradora have four main benefits:
- They’re very light and not too bulky, so are great if you’re packing light for a trip.
- They’re very versatile and suit different terrains. They’re as at home on the city streets as they are trail running. Perfect if you’re taking a trip that involves both cities and hiking.
- They are waterproof. Trust me – I’ve tested them on a very rainy Inca Trail!
- They look and feel great! These are not just small, pretty-colour versions of men’s boots – they have been designed specifically for women’s feet and they are super comfy! That said, they are rather nice to look at too…
As soon as I put them on, I knew: these are really great shoes. I found them so comfortable and it wasn’t just me – the other ten or so girls agreed.
It normally takes a while to wear in new shoes, particularly hiking boots, and I always worry about blisters the first time I wear them. But these were super comfortable right away.
We headed into the forest and put the shoes through their paces throughout the morning. After trail running, uneven terrain, agility, squats, bear crawling, press-ups, finger-tip planking (ouch), sprinting and many more activities besides, my feet remained completely comfortable.
That is really saying something because the rest of me has been in a world of pain for the last two days – I really must exercise more often!
I didn’t want to take them off
Normally I take my shoes off as soon as I enter the door of anyone’s home – including mine. People tell me that’s a very ‘Canadian’ thing to do, but I was just brought up that way – it’s polite and saves running the vacuum cleaner round an extra time!
When I walked into my flat though I just… forgot? I wandered around in them for a good 30 minutes before the mood took me to head outside and take a few photos for this post.
From the photos I realised they were still muddy, so I’ve swapped them for fluffy slipper boots now (don’t judge me, I won’t judge you).
KEEN Terradora on a long hike
I take my Keen Terradora’s with me everywhere I’m going to be hiking. So I took them to Peru with me recently and did the four-day Inca Trail.
The boots held up well. With four whole days of hiking, I didn’t get any blisters at all. Yes, my feet were tired by the end, but not uncomfortably so.
On this trip I experienced all weathers, from 24 hours of non-stop rain, to snow up at Dead Woman’s Pass, to blazing sunshine looking around Machu Picchu. And my feet were always completely fine.
Keen to try them out?
I definitely recommend giving the KEEN Terradora Waterproof Boots a try if you’re in the market for some new women’s hiking boots. Particularly if you’re going to be travelling and need a light and versatile option for your feet! I wish I’d found these ones sooner.
They are available from many good retailers, but I recommend keeping an eye on Amazon for a good deal.
