A surfing adventure involves fresh air, a full-body workout and something close to meditation as you wait for the next wave.

And surfers are the definition of cool with their toned bodies, tanned skin and sun-bleached hair. What’s not to like?
There are even ways to get involved with surf culture without getting your hair wet!
Get started with surfing adventure…
If you don’t feel ready to take on the ocean, test your balance on an artificial indoor wave! Find somewhere nearby that has a Flow Rider you can try. These machines work with a stream of fast-flowing shallow water, so you won’t end up in the drink!
Or go and watch a surf competition. Watch the pros do all the work while you sit on the beach with a cool beer!
A little more surfing adventure…
It’s time to test the waters! Go ahead and book a surf lesson. Head to your nearest surf beach for an introduction to the surf (with a nice soft board to get you started!).
Or, if the beach is too far, wave gardens are popping up all over the place! You’ll be up on your feet in no time. Some places even offer an extra lesson for free if you don’t manage to stand up.
Maximum surfing adventure!
If you’re keen for a longer term surfing adventure, why not go on a surfari? Surf trips cater for all levels – from complete beginner to advanced surfer.
Top spots include Morocco, Costa Rica and Portugal where you’ll find warm sunny weather for your trip. India and Sri Lanka are up and coming surf destinations too!
Or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, take a leaf out of Chris Burkard’s book (or his documentary) and head somewhere colder. Surf trips exist in Iceland and Norway! Just remember your wetsuit thermals, gloves and boots!
