When was the last time you went on a cycling adventure?
Do you remember when you were a little kid and you got your first ever bike for your birthday? And how about the day your dad took the leap of faith and removed your training wheels?
If you’re anything like me, you spent the next ten years cycling around with your friends – to the river, through the fields, just about anywhere!
Do you still cycle?
For many people the answer is a firm no. But why is that? Maybe now is the time to remind yourself why you loved it?
Get started with cycling adventure…
Rent a share bike (or Boris Bike, as we call them in the UK – after the politician who brought them to London) and have a cycling adventure in your closest city.
You can find bike share schemes in many cities around the world including London, Melbourne, Beijing and Paris – to name just a few!
A little more cycling adventure…
If you’re looking for a little more cycling adventure, you could join a cycling group. Cycling clubs are great if you want to combine some exercise with socialising.
Most towns and cities have a few options to choose from. It can also be a great way to explore your local area if you’re new in town! Just Google “Cycling club near me“.
Maximum cycling adventure!
For maximum adventure you’ll want to book a cycling holiday.
Cycling adventure holidays exist all over the world (here’s some from G Adventures) and are a great opportunity to spend a week or more in the company of fellow adventurers! You don’t have to be a pro cyclist – there are plenty of beginner level trips out there.
Or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, how about cycling solo around the world? This kind of cycling adventure is for the very ambitious.
It also *might* be a shameless plug for my cousin, Charles – The Novice Explorer – who is currently taking on this particular challenge!
He’s made it from London to China so far and is doing an awesome job raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Meningitis Now. Could you do it too?
Don’t forget your helmet!
It’s law in many countries that you must wear a cycle helmet whilst cycling on the road. Besides that, it’s just a really sensible thing to do!
You can even get some great foldable cycle helmets which are brilliant for travelling!
